Adjunct Professor @ UoC - CSD
Adjunct Professor @ TUC - ECE
Research Director @ ORamaVR
Visiting Collaborator @ FORTH - HCI

Manos is a Computational Geometer, an Algebraist, and a riddle enthusiast.

Born in Chania, Crete, he fell in love with Mathematics, riddles and hourglasses at a young age after seeing The Crystal Maze TV Show. He soon found himself at University of Crete (UoC), in Heraklion, studying Mathematics, pure and applied. There, he realized that he was also fond of algorithms and, after pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational Geometry and a postdoc at Algebra & Logic, he ended up designing geometric algorithms for VR/AR at ORamaVR and teaching Computer Graphics at UoC (and, previously, Mathematics at Technical University of Crete).

Should you see him wandering in a corridor, feel free to talk to him for anything related to mathematics, geometry, algebra, puzzles or bridge (yes, the card game)!

Manos is a mathematician who designs geometric algorithms for Computer Graphics and Extended Reality. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Crete, where he studied the 3D Apollonius diagram, i.e., the Voronoi diagram of 3D spheres. Since 2019 he has been with ORamaVR, a spinoff startup company of FORTH, where, as Research Director, he leads the design of geometry-based algorithms for medical VR/AR/MR training. He was Deputy PI in the EU projects CHARITY, 5G-EPICENTRE and FIDAL, on advanced XR applications in 5G edge-cloud environments.

His research exploits Geometric Algebra, a high-dimensional algebra capable to encapsulate objects as well as their transformations in a uniform format, called multivector. This work has received Best Paper awards and Geometric Algebra Computing Awards at CGI, and the co-authored pyGANDALF received the Best Education Paper award at SIGGRAPH Asia 2024. His current interest is the AI-based manipulation of 3D scenes.

He is an adjunct professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete, teaching Computer Graphics and Interactive Computer Graphics. He was an adjunct professor at the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the Technical University of Crete (2024-2026), teaching Single-Variable Calculus, Discrete Mathematics and Numerical Analysis, and he is a visiting collaborator with FORTH’s Human-Computer Interaction Lab. He has co-supervised 25 theses (16 BSc, 6 MSc, 3 PhD). All students of Manos HERE.
